Listen Up!  The Parables of Jesus.  Jesus told stories.  Not just any stories, mind you…  At first glance these “parables’ are deceptively simple, but they pack a powerful punch.  Jesus said that if we listened properly we’d get a glimpse into the mind of God and His purposes.  Trust Jesus when he said that anyone who had “ears to hear” would be transformed by his teachings.  Are we listening????

No doubt about it…life can be hard.  What can we do to steer clear of trouble, or soften the blow when trouble finds us?  Join us as we explore what Jesus had to say about building a solid foundation for our lives.  (A series based on the Sermon on the Mount.  And a tip of the hat to Rev. “Jesus Matters!”  Isn’t it something - we come to church…some of us have been doing that for decades.  We do it because Jesus matters.  But just what exactly does that mean…and to whom and for what reasons?  Mike will be using this series to talk about some of the areas our visioning team has explored as they discerned what it means to be a follower of Jesus and a member of His church in 21st century Chatham.  Come and learn why Jesus matters so very, very much in our lives and in the world.

“Four Ingredients for a Blessed Life.  Can we live a life that’s better than average?  Or is the quality of our life dictated by outside influences we have no control over?  That’s a yes and a no!  Come and learn how Thankfulness, Humility, Compassion and Forgiveness are integral to the mix for creating a life that Jesus called “full to the brim.”

Sept 2 - Thankfulness (and its offspring “Generosity”)  Society teaches us to focus on what we don’t have, instead of what we do.  Learning to be thankful is key to living a life that isn’t desperately keeping up with the Joneses!

Sept 9 - Humility  Ever heard it said, “Pride goes before the fall?”  ‘Nuff said!

Ordination of new elders and commissioning of Sunday School teachers

Sept 16 - Compassion  Folks…what goes round, comes round!  Love others, and watch love come back to you!

Sept 23 -  Forgiveness  Easier said than done, you say?  Yep…that’s true, but it’s the only  avenue to healing, and…(here’s the kicker)…eternal life!    Family Sunday

Sept 30   Guest Speaker:  Judy Goudreau

“Close Encounters of the Heavenly Kind”  I had a teacher in seminary who told us in class, “If you’re going to speak about God, you have to speak about God!  That simple statement struck me right between the eyes.  In a time when churches abound with “positive thinking” and “self-help” messages (and I’m all for them!), it’s good to be reminded that God is God and that He deserves our worship regardless of our situation, or our limited understanding of His nature.  (A two-week series)

Perfection Not Required! (Based on the book No Perfect People Allowed by John Burke)  Jesus said he came to heal the sick, not to minister to those who are well. Thing is…the Bible tells us that none of us is really “well.”  God knows we’re a hurting unit, and yet, so often we tried to hide it.  And that’s a problem, because God can’t fix what we won’t share with him.   Maybe you think you don’t need God’s help, or perhaps you don’t believe you’re worthy of his love.  Either way…this series is for you!

June 3     “God loves us “As Is!”  We don’t have to prove ourselves to God.  He loves us already!  Thing is…this is harder to put into practice than it sounds, and we can stand to lose a lot of the power and joy in our lives if we fail to understand that God loves us unconditionally.  Communion and Baptism Sunday

June 10   “Come as you are.”  We don’t need fancy clothes or a perfect life to seek for God.  God would rather we bring a hurting heart than a fake exterior.  So if you feel you’re not “worthy,” –  come and find a God who has been waiting for you all along!

June 17   “New and Improved.” God doesn’t care where we’re at when we turn to him.  At the same time, he’s definitely not going to leave us in that place forever.  Come and learn that giving our lives to Jesus results in our transformation – for the better!

June 24   “Join the family.”  So…you’re giving Jesus a try.  It’s time to join the “body of Christ” – the Christian family.  Come and find out how to apply on a daily basis the new life Jesus offers.  Congregational Picnic at Lake Morningstar.
