Listen Up! The Parables of Jesus.
Jesus told stories. Not just any stories, mind you… At first
glance these “parables’ are deceptively simple, but they pack a powerful
punch. Jesus said that if we listened properly we’d get a glimpse
into the mind of God and His purposes. Trust Jesus when he said
that anyone who had “ears to hear” would be transformed by his
teachings. Are we listening????

Famous Last Words: Remembering Christ’s words from the cross.
During the season of Lent we take time to reflect on the sacrifice Jesus
made on the cross. The events of the crucifixion are not just ancient
history…what Jesus accomplished on the cross changed the world. Come
and join us as we remember Christ’s words at Calvary, and examine how they
impact our lives today.

lives..
No doubt about it…life can be hard. What can we do to steer clear of
trouble, or soften the blow when trouble finds us? Join us as we
explore what Jesus had to say about building a solid foundation for our
lives. (A series based on the Sermon on the Mount. And a tip of
the hat to Rev. Chuck Congram for the idea for this series.)

“Five Priceless Gifts”
Frazzled nerves, maxed out credit cards, endless running around.
Amidst the “holiday cheer,” Christmas can be everything but what it was
meant to be: a gift from God to us and the world. Come and join
us as we remember that Jesus really matters, and that his gifts
are…priceless. And, do you know?…sharing those gifts makes this world
a better place!

“Jesus Matters!”
Isn’t it something - we come to church…some of us have been doing that for
decades. We do it because Jesus matters. But just what exactly
does that mean…and to whom and for what reasons? Mike will be using
this series to talk about some of the areas our visioning team has explored
as they discerned what it means to be a follower of Jesus and a member of
His church in 21st century Chatham. Come and learn why
Jesus matters so very, very much in our lives and in the world.

“Four Ingredients
for a Blessed Life.” Can we live a life that’s better
than average? Or is the quality of our life dictated by outside
influences we have no control over? That’s a yes and a no! Come
and learn how Thankfulness, Humility, Compassion and Forgiveness are
integral to the mix for creating a life that Jesus called “full to the
brim.”
Sept 2 - Thankfulness (and its offspring “Generosity”) Society
teaches us to focus on what we don’t have, instead of what we do.
Learning to be thankful is key to living a life that isn’t desperately
keeping up with the Joneses!
Sept 9 - Humility Ever heard it said, “Pride goes before the
fall?” ‘Nuff said!
Ordination of new elders and commissioning of Sunday School teachers
Sept 16 - Compassion Folks…what goes round, comes round!
Love others, and watch love come back to you!
Sept 23 - Forgiveness Easier said than done, you say?
Yep…that’s true, but it’s the only avenue to healing, and…(here’s the
kicker)…eternal life!

“Close Encounters of the Heavenly Kind” I
had a teacher in seminary who told us in class, “If you’re going to speak
about God, you have to speak about God!” That
simple statement struck me right between the eyes. In a time when
churches abound with “positive thinking” and “self-help” messages (and I’m
all for them!), it’s good to be reminded that God is God and that He
deserves our worship regardless of our situation, or our limited
understanding of His nature. (A two-week series)
